Our Main Focus

Prior to the Covid-19 quarantine, our Social Ministry Team was hard at work throughout the year. Every person on the team had a heart for service! Some of the projects they tackled were the collections for the Grace Memorial for Mission, collection of non-perishable food items for Gethsemane Lutheran’s Food Pantry in Chalmette, collection of diapers and personal care items for the New Orleans Women’s and Children’s Shelter, environmental service at Lake Pontchartrain and Bayou St. John, and a ministry at Bethlehem Lutheran—the Community Meal.  While the quarantine caused us to have to pause and regroup, we came back strong and have continued supporting the community in a big way.

Other Projects
  • Some of our members helped out at Second Harvest Food Bank sorting and packing food, assembling plated lunches, etc.
  • We raised funds through Chuck-it-in-the-Bucket and collected non-perishables which were sorted, bagged,
and delivered to the folks in Lake Charles and Lafayette, after hurricanes Laura and Delta.
  • We’ve hosted a few drive-through food collections of non-perishable donations for the Gethsemane Lutheran Church food pantry (our sister congregation in Chalmette).
  • We put together “Grace Cares” bags for members to give to those in need on street corners.
  • For God’s Work, Our Hands, a group of 12 people (members and friends of Grace) spent 3 hours cleaning up trash at City Park on 10/11/20.
  • We collected, sorted, and delivered much needed items to Covenant House in New Orleans.
