Katrina Surviving Congregation Gives Back
Local Church Becomes Collection Site for Harvey Recovery
NEW ORLEANS, LA, September 1, 2017
The people of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church (5800 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans) certainly understand the devastation that comes with a hurricane. The church’s buildings and many of the homes of the members were flooded in 2005 as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The “Saving Grace” project to restore the sanctuary brought volunteers from all over the country. Since then, the church has been a host site for many groups who have come to the area to help with ongoing recovery and restoration efforts.
As the congregation continues striving to give back, it will become a drop-off/collection site for nonperishable food items and cleaning supplies. Beginning Tuesday, September 5th and continuing through Friday September 8th, we will open the doors of our church each day between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM to accept donations that will be channeled directly to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Effort. Items to be collected are listed below:
(canned foods should be pop-top types)
Canned vegetables & fruits
Canned meat (tuna and chicken)
Ensure & PediaSure
Protein bars/Granola bars
Additionally, donations can be made directly to partnering organizations by visiting the links found on the website at www.gracenola.org/disaster-relief/.
